2026 Reunion Sept 25-27 Cuttyhunk Island details

Mike and Kate Parker have generously offered us the unique opportunity to celebrate our 2026 reunion, Sept 25-27, 2026, at their home on Cuttyhunk Island (52 West End Road Gosnold Ma 02713). Cuttyhunk is a small island off the coast of New Bedford. It is well known for its natural beauty, spectacular views, fishing, and for exploring its beaches and walking paths Half the Island is designated as a nature preserve. Following is an outline of the details.

FACILITIES

The Parkers are offering their large, beautifully remodelled home with an adjacent guest house and 2nd separate house, free of charge. Their homes can sleep 13 or 14 comfortably. Each sleeping area is attached to a modern bathroom facility. Nearby is the Avalon Inn on Cuttyhunk where we have tentatively reserved 5 rooms. There are 2 restaurants, Cuttyhunk Fishing Club and Cuttyhunk Raw Bar Inn. You can google these 3 establishments for more information. There are beds for 13/14 brothers in the Parker's houses, mostly double beds for couples. Plus, the rooms at the Avalon have 2 beds. If we need 5 rooms at the Avalon (Est @$240/night), we will share the total cost of $1200 amongst all attending Brothers, making the room cost well under $100/night. If there are more than 19 Brothers attending we can add more facilities and the cost/night will still be less than $100.

MEALS/SNACKS/DRINKS

Mike and Kate have offered their kitchen/grill facilities so we can enjoy Friday and Saturday dinners at their home by joining forces to help prepare, cook and clean up. An option would be to have one meal at their home and the other at a restaurant.   Mike and Kate have suggested that as their guests, meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at the Parker House are without charge, but we feel that the Brothers should contribute to the hard costs of groceries and dinner meals, again shared equally by all. Brothers may wish to bring their own booze. There will be soft drinks, snacks, some beers and hard liquor available.

ENTERTAINMENT

In addition to enjoying the natural assets of the Island, the Cuttyhunk Historical Society operates a free admission (donations accepted) museum that is open 10:30-2:30 Saturday and Sunday and would be a nice easy Saturday afternoon activity for relief from a Ralfo house meeting and/or a hangover. You can google the Historical Society for more information.

TRANSPORTATION

The main access to the island is by boat. There is a ferry from New Bedford Harbor with reasonable paid parking. The round trip ferry cost will be $60-100 including a nominal bag fee. The ferry goes from NB to Cutty on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 9AM and 5PM, takes approximately 1 hour, and returns to NB as a round trip. If anyone wishes to arrive earlier than 5 on Thursday or Friday, and we have enough demand, we can arrange a smaller boat mid-afternoon at additional cost.

CONSIDERATIONS

--There is limited, ferry only access and egress to and from the island as described above. If you need to be back early Sunday, you will need to leave Saturday evening.

--There is no CVS/Walgreens type store. If you are partially demented like me, you better be sure to remember to pack 100% of your meds or you will be SOL.

--Mike will have his boat at the island. If anybody has an emergency or unexpected reason to leave early, Mike can take them to the mainland.

--There is no drug store on the island, but there are emergency medical services in the form of several EMTs and an evacuation plan, by boat or helicopter, if necessary. There is nothing to freak-out about, just use common sense. If you have a severe medical problem where you need to be close to a hospital and emergency services, going to this or any location, without regard to medical access, is probably not a good idea. Cuttyhunk is not the Australian outback, if the unexpected occurs you will be cared for. Band and Goldfarb will always be willing to perform minor surgeries with no anesthesia at your request.
